Musandam itinerary — a dhow cruise through the fjords at golden hour Most Musandam questions reduce to one: **how many days?** The answer — one day for the fjords, two for the full experience, three for the hidden peninsula. This guide gives you three ready-made itineraries with timings, costs and the mistakes to avoid, all updated for 2026.

The 1-day itinerary: the Dubai dash

The classic day trip, for travellers based in the UAE:

Time Step
6:30 AM Leave Dubai on the E311 via Ras Al Khaimah
8:30 AM Cross at Al Darah/Tibat (35 AED exit, visa stamp)
9:30 AM Coffee stop on the Khasab corniche
10:00 AM Half-day dhow cruise — dolphins, Telegraph Island snorkeling
2:00 PM Lunch in town, quick souq walk
3:30 PM Drive up to the Khor Najd viewpoint
4:30 PM Head back — Dubai by 7 PM

Cost guide: ~150–200 AED per adult self-drive (cruise 12–15 OMR + 35 AED + fuel), or 250–600 AED on a package tour with transport.

The 2-day itinerary: the weekend loop

The most popular plan, and our recommendation:

Day 1 — the water

  • Drive up in the morning (or the night before)
  • Full-day dhow cruise 10:30 AM–4:30 PM: dolphins, Telegraph Island, Seebi Island swim, buffet lunch
  • Sunset at Khor Najd, dinner on the corniche
  • Overnight: Khasab hotel — or upgrade to an overnight dhow cruise and sleep in the fjord

Day 2 — the mountains

  • Mountain safari 8 AM: Sayh plateau, fossil beds, Jebel Harim summit (2,087m)
  • Lunch in Khasab — the fish-market grills
  • Bukha Fort on the coastal drive out
  • Back across the border before 4 PM, home by evening

Cost guide: 500–900 AED per person all-in, including one night.

The 3-day itinerary: the deep dive

For travellers who want the Musandam most people never see:

  • Day 1: full-day dhow cruise + Khor Najd sunset (same as above)
  • Day 2: morning mountain safari with the Khor Najd descent; afternoon at Haffa Beach or the Bukha coves; evening in town
  • Day 3: Kumzar boat trip — the remote village at the peninsula tip — or a slow morning at the souq and fort, then the drive back

Three days also opens the overnight options: one night in the fjord on the dhow, one night in a Khasab hotel.

The three mistakes that break itineraries

  1. Leaving Dubai at 9 AM for a 10 AM cruise — the border will eat your margin. Leave by 6:30.
  2. Scheduling the mountain safari in summer midday — book it 8 AM or 4 PM instead.
  3. Skipping Khor Najd because "we've seen enough" — it's 30 minutes from town and it's the best view in the peninsula.

Which itinerary is right for you?

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do you need in Musandam?
One day works for the fjord cruise from Dubai; two days is the sweet spot (cruise + mountain safari + overnight); three days adds the remote spots — Kumzar, the hidden coves and a slower pace. Most visitors do 1–2 days.
Can you do Musandam in one day from Dubai?
Yes — leave by 6:30 AM, cross at Al Darah by 8:30, board a half-day or full-day dhow cruise in Khasab, and you're back in Dubai by evening. It's a long but completely doable day.
What is the best 2-day Musandam itinerary?
Day one: drive up, half-day dhow cruise with dolphins and snorkeling, sunset at Khor Najd, overnight in Khasab or on an overnight dhow. Day two: morning mountain safari to Jebel Harim, Bukha Fort on the way out, home by early evening.
Is one day enough for Musandam?
For the fjord cruise — the highlight — yes. You'll miss the mountain safari, the viewpoints and the villages, but a well-planned day trip still delivers the postcard Musandam experience.
What should a 3-day Musandam itinerary include?
Day one: full-day dhow cruise plus Khor Najd sunset. Day two: Jebel Harim safari, Sayh plateau and a beach stop. Day three: Kumzar boat trip or a slow morning at Haffa Beach, then the drive back via Bukha Fort.
